Tube Ablating
Avicenna’s tube ablation process machines polymer tubing by breaking the material’s molecular bonds with laser energy.
The non-contact laser process from Avicenna removes tubing material without burning or melting. When a design demands
high performance from delicate tube, our laser ablation is the most effective solution.
Selective laser ablation creates sections of tube with an evenly reduced outside diameter. These sections can be used
to mate the tube to a companion piece or to fit the tube with complementary components such as rings or sheaths.
Additionally selective laser ablation can be used to remove the outer material layer of a co-extruded or braided tube,
creating a region with required bend and flex characteristics.
Advanced laser ablation techniques are used to create tapered regions for smooth outside diameter transitions and to
create gradual conical tips at the tube’s termination. These advanced ablation techniques create a tube component that
won’t snag or bind when inserted into a tight orifice. The laser ablation process from Avicenna makes these features
available for tubing that is too small or delicate to be machined by conventional mechanical methods.
