When applied to multi-lumen tubing, controlled-depth drilling allows Avicenna to produce precise holes in select lumens without disturbing adjacent lumens, thereby creating a multi-functional component from a single piece. When applied to laminates, control-depth drilling allows Avicenna to produce vias through a polymer layer to a conductive layer, perhaps exposing embedded circuitry.
